Mode of
Secretion

Mechanism

Example

Merocrine

/ Eccrine

Secretion occurs via exocytosis,
with no loss of cytoplasm or cellular damage.

- Salivary glands,

- Pancreas

- Eccrine sweat glands

Apocrine

A portion of the cell's cytoplasm buds off
(loss of cytoplasm) along with the secretion.

- Mammary glands

- Apocrine / Atypical sweat glands

Holocrine

The entire cell disintegrates to release
its contents.

- Sebaceous glands

• Typical / Merocrine sweath glands- Found throughout the body, especially on palms, soles, and forehead, SCALP.

• Atypical / Apocrine sweath glands- Found in specific areas like areola & nipple, Perianal region, Glans penis.
