HELLP syndrome is a severe complication of pregnancy, usually considered a variant of preeclampsia.

 

The acronym HELLP stands for-

 

H: Hemolysis - The destruction of red blood cells

EL: Elevated Liver enzymes - Indicating liver damage

LP: Low Platelet count - Causing problems with blood clotting
