Muscle power grading is a system used to assess the strength of a patient's muscles. The grading follows the Medical Research Council (MRC) scale, which ranges from 0 to 5:
Grade |
Description |
0 |
No contraction visible or palpable. |
1 |
Muscle contraction is visible or palpable, but no movement occurs. |
2 |
Movement occurs, but only when gravity is eliminated. |
3 |
Movement against gravity, but not against resistance. |
4 |
Movement against gravity and some resistance, but the muscle is weak. |
5 |
Normal strength; full movement against gravity and full resistance. |
