Goodsall’s rule

The main purpose of Goodsall’s rule is to help predict and localize the “internal opening” of an anal fistula based on the position of the external opening.

• External opening that are “located anteriorly” are joined by single / Short straight tract (FMGE Dec 2021)

• External opening that are “located posteriorly” are joined by long curved tracts, and open internally at 6 o’clock position in midline.
